Moving Companies
David Piotrowski represents moving companies that specialize in household goods moves. David Piotrowski has several years worth of experience and knowledge in overseeing compliance issues. Our goal is to make our moving company clients be in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations. David Piotrowski can advise you of the required documents for each move that you do and we can provide these documents to you. We can customize these documents with your name and logo and make each document reflect the nature of your company while making sure the legal requirements exist in each document. Such documents include, but are not limited to, Bills of Lading, Order for Service, Inventory Sheets, and Estimates. We can also provide your company with its own, personalized tariff that is custom-made and tailored to the types of moves that you perform. If you have received a "Notice of Claim" from the DOT, we can represent you.
We can help train your sales staff of the various rules in giving estimates to potential customers and how to handle customer service issues. We can inform your dispatch team on what documents must be completed and how to complete each of them. And we can assist your management team by giving them the necessary tools that they need to effectively manage the company.
If you like, we can also handle your claims for you. Mr. Piotrowski has been certified by the American Moving and Storage Association (AMSA) in their claims and arbitration certification program.

Household Goods Shippers (Customers)
Unfortunately, many customers of moving companies get the short-end of the deal and are often forced to pay more before their goods are delivered, also known as holding the goods "hostage." Other customers are quoted one price and then later find out, after their goods have been picked up, that they need to pay a lot more money because the estimate was for "x" pounds and the actual weight of their shipment was "y" pounds. Customers are provided certain rights under federal law to protect against less-than-honest movers.
If you feel you have been taken advantage of in a "moving scam" or "moving fraud," we may be able to assist you in your claim against the moving company.
This firm can assist you in filing your moving company claim with the moving company. Many common claims arise due to damages and/or missing items. We can act as your attorney in organizing, drafting the necessary documents, filing, and resolving your claim based upon the contractual obligations of both parties. We can advise you of your rights and the company's obligations under federal law.
Moving companies are required by law to follow certain procedures and guidelines. Failure to abide by these laws creates great liability for moving companies. Unfortunately, many moving companies are able to get away with "moving scam" and "moving fraud" because there are simply not enough people who know this complex area of the law.
Some helpful brochures to assist shippers have been prepared by the government agency regulating the industry, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, (FMCSA), which is part of the Department of Transportation (DOT):
- Protect Your Move
- Understanding Valuation and Insurance Options
- Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move

Moving scams and moving fraud is unfortunately a big problem in the household goods transportation industry and together, we can work to minimize such events from taking place.
